I'm slowly moving from just looking fat, to actually looking pregnant. Yesterday the woman ringing me up at the grocery story actually put my groceries into my cart for me after bagging them because they were "heavy". And at Whole Foods a very nice young man asked me if I needed help taking my one bag of groceries to the car. Um, no thanks but if you come home with me I'll let you carry them up the flight of stairs for me. :-)
It seems that pregnancy has given me the will to cook. Last weekend I made Apple Cider Pork Tenderloin, Thai-Style Pumpkin Soup, and Curry Butternut Squash soup....all of which are available on the cooking light site if you are a member.
Today I'm planning on doing some baking including some really yummy sounding pumpkin cookies with a cream cheese frosting. Friend Jenn sent over a fabulous pumpkin bread that Jay and I are devouring so I need to catch up!
Oh, and there is the cleaning and freelance work to get done today while trying to get Leo to the dog park for some activity (we clearly will not be able to make it during the week anymore with the time change and all).
Saturday I went out and got some paint chips for painting the nursery area. Our apartment is a two bedroom with loft apartment. Basically the loft area is a walk through sitting room into the master bedroom. But the sitting room is about to become our nursery. Our neighbors had their apartment set up the same way and said it was really convenient (and will be especially so for that late night nursing business).
Originally we had our master bedroom set-up as a media room, the sitting room was papacat's home office, and the downstairs bedroom was our bedroom. But we moved the bedroom into the media room (but left the TV and big chair in there), and moved papacat's office into the downstairs bedroom.
It seems though we still need just a little extra space. With all the tech books, four desks, four printers, and a bunch of other equipment it seems that we were at capacity even without considering all the goodies that come with a baby. So after a brief discussion we determined that renting a real office was the way to go. That way papacat has a place to go work and we can move a bunch of stuff out of the apartment. That'll let us create a smaller TV room downstairs where we can close the door and not worry about the baby waking up to the noise, and it also gives us a place to take the baby away from any walls that join to another apartment when he or she is cranky in the middle of the night.
Does this mean I get to paint another room? It and the nursery area are the only to rooms I've not painted at least one wall in. It is really going to suck to paint over everything when we move out. I notice though when I walk the dog that our apartment has a warm glow to it that the other's do not with the stark white walls!
Papacat started it on Friday with a sore throat. I came home from work and found him snuggled in bed watching TV.
On Sunday the sore throat hit me. And the plugged ears, runny nose, sneezing. I made lots of soup and hoped for the best. It is amazing how you take little things like cold medicine for granted until you are pregnant when everything seems to carry the label "if you are pregnant or nursing check with your health care professional before using this product."
Not to worry though. Today the sore throat is feeling much better and while I'm still a little stuffy I feel that the half gallon of OJ I drank yesterday seems to be pushing for a return to normal (or as normal as you get with another person growing inside you).
For about the last week or so I've felt the subtle movements of the little baby inside. Somedays the baby is more active than others. I haven't yet figured out a connection between what I eat and the movements though. I do feel a lot of movement in the morning before or as I'm eating my breakfast, and late in the evening before bed. Watson, our siamese cat, loves laying on my belly. I wonder what he'll think when the baby throws a foot in his direction?
I'm still about 5 lbs under my pre-pregancy weight. The good news is that as I approach 21 weeks it is unlikely that I will see the 75 lb gain my sister saw with both of her pregnancies especially because with my metabolism I'd be unlikely to drop it like she did. At this point I'd be very happy with a net gain of 15-20 lbs which is in line with the extra weight I was carrying anyway before the pregnancy.
I got the bill from the hospital where I will be delivering. Our portion: $960. Thank goodness for health insurance or it would be $4000! I called today and they'd like to see us pay it about 6 weeks or so before my due date (to make sure I pay before I deliver).
Today we went for our ultrasound. I'm at 19 weeks, 6 days and developmentally the baby is at 20 weeks, 4 days so we are about 5 days ahead of schedule. The baby's heart rate was 142. The estimated weight is 12 oz or the weight of a can of Coke. It was very cool to see the little one, and since we are waiting to find out the gender the technician didn't even look for that.
Because the baby was pressed right against me we didn't get any full body shots, but we did get this great profile picture of the baby.
