Just an hour away from our house in West Houston, we discovered Brazos Bend State Park. Perhaps you don't think of alligators when you think of Texas, but as it turns out are lots of them here, especially as you near the Gulf (however there are signs on the bayou near our new house that indicate there are alligators there too). This park had lots of walking/biking trails around the lake system with meadows, marshlands, and large trees covered in Spanish Moss. The most amazing part is the wildlife. We walked about four miles while there, and we saw LOTS of alligators (including some catching their lunch) as well as an amazing number of birds. We're already looking forward to another trip to this park.
