Happy Birthday to James! Today we went to his birthday party! I helped friend Samantha make the fondant Barney to top the birthday cake. Sebastian really enjoyed playing in their backyard. He especially liked playing with the sandbox and friend Megan!
So, while I was out at my girl's weekend in Baltimore, Jay made friends with some old ladies. He worked a bunch on his side-project and came up with this hysterical marketing site: You Broke the Build. Don't forget to see what the other grannies have to say (Agness has friends, you know)!
I spent the weekend in Baltimore to help Jenny celebrate her upcoming nuptuals with a bridal shower and bachelorette party. I arrived Friday afternoon and after an errand or two to pick up supplies for the weekend, I headed to Jenny's to catch up. Over the course of the afternoon and evening other friends arrived. Many were from out of state and were arriving from the airport.
We got to catch up, some of us got to know each other, and a few bachelorette gifts were exchanged. By 12:45 am I was ready to climb into bed (I was up at 4am Friday to catch my flight) so I headed to my hotel which was about 5 miles from Jenny's and sacked out.
Saturday morning I headed back over to Jenny's and picked her up to take her to the shower, which was hosted at her grandmother's house in Bethesda. The party was lots of fun. Great food was served, and desserts, and Jenny got lots of awesome gifts. She is definitely going to be ready to entertain! We then headed back to her house for a quick power nap before heading up to Baltimore for the evening's festivities.
The evening started out with an 8:30 dinner reservation at Pazo Restaurant. All I can say is YUMMY! The tapas style restaurant was beautiful inside, and the food was very tasty. There were 9 of us there and we shared a number of dishes including: calamari, capri salad, ceviche, veal and pork empanadas, pappa frita (one of my favs), and grilled lambchops. We finished dinner around 11:30 and headed over to Have a Nice Day Cafe. We were booked as a party so we got to skip the line to get in, didn't pay a cover, and had a private booth! Given that I'm almost 6 months pregnant, and it was WAY past my bedtime, I was glad to have a place to rest. We stayed until about 1:45 and then headed back to the hotel. About an hour later I headed back to my room to snooze before heading back to the airport Sunday morning to return home. It was a whirlwind for sure but totally fun and it was great to see Jenny!!!!
It is 11 pm and despite the cough medicine I dosed Sebastian with before bed I can hear him coughing in his bed. Can he sleep and cough at the same time? If not, I'll be in for a LONG day tomorrow. Poor little guy.
Apparently while I made a run to FedEx to drop off some prints, Jay played some sort of jumping game of catch with Sebastian so when I came home Sebastian was trying to jump around the living room. If you've never seen a toddler trying to learn to jump, you haven't had a good laugh at his expense. Of course, my laughing just encouraged him. It is like he is trying to throw his whole body up. A few times he even got both feet off the ground. Ha ha ha!
Baby number two has been really active the past few days...even causing me to jump in my seat on the way to the bus stop today (to drop the nanny off to catch her bus home). The force of the movement just shocked me. It is hard to believe I'm only 5 1/2 months because I feel HUGE but I was with Sebastian too so I shouldn't be surprised. And I'll take comfort in the fact that my other pregnant friends think I look great (um, yeah, despite seeing me sweaty after a 1 hr workout in the 98 degree heat we've been having). Don't worry, we hydrate!
Today we had some friends over to swim and for lunch. Sebastian was very busy showing off his lack of fear when it comes to jumping into the pool. If I remember I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow that my sister-in-law took of him last week doing the same thing.
And good news, I didn't burn the house down! I took my recalled battery out of my laptop and I'm waiting for my replacement. In the meantime I actually have to power down when I move from my living room to my office with the laptop. I know, sad for me.
On Urban Pug there was a post regarding 5 weird things their pugs did. Here is my own recap.
Will run around the house crying when he gets a new bone and can't find a good place to bury it.
Will bury said bone in the pillows on the couch. He actually acts like he is digging a hole, will drop the bone in, and cover the "hole" using his nose to move the pillows. Great entertainment.
Will suffer through a bath, even hop in the tub, for the rubdown with the towel afterward. He loves getting dried off.
He takes a mouthful of food out of his dish, walks into another room to drop it all on the floor, then eats it off the floor.
Runs into the kitchen to sit on my husband's left side whenever he hears the kitchen knife being sharpened in hopes of getting some scraps. We swear he can hear cheese being cut from anywhere in the house.
Because of the heat we haven't been to the dog park in awhile but I made a special effort to get there today with Leo and Sebastian. Leo had a great time running around and splashing in the dog pool. Sebastian made a new friend and was playing with the dog's tennis balls. Unfortunately he saw the dog pool and started to take off his shirt in anticipation but I scooped him up and put him back into the stroller before I had to fish him out of the dog water.
Now that we are Houston Zoo members, we can pretty much go whenever we want to and bring 4 guests with us. So with my nieces visiting last weekend, and my sister-in-law and her three kids visiting last week, we made two trips to take advantage of that membership card. We enjoyed seeing both the 5 month old giraffe (pictured) and the newborn 1 day old giraffe (not shown), elephants, lions. These last two trips are significant in that these were the first times we've gone where Sebastian has realized there are animals to be seen (note the interest as he looks for the elephants above). Sebastian also thought it was great fun to watch the otters play in the water and to play in Children's Zoo. The two group pictures include: Andrew (6), Jack (4) and Chapin (8) with Sebastian sitting on a buffalo scupture, and Ashley (4) and Gracey (2) sitting on giant cow with Sebastian!
After trying to keep cool indoors yesterday, we finally broke down and let the kids out in the front yard to play. Sebastian looks like he is on a hike instead of just playing in our front yard (which was nicely landscaped by the previous owners). My niece, Ashley, was busy blowing bubbles!
Today we went to the neighborhood waterpark with my two nieces. Ashley, the elder of the two (who just turned 4) enjoyed running through the water with Sebastian. The younger of the two (2 yrs) was happy splashing in the baby pool. Seeing Sebastian in the fountains, it is no surprise that he loves taking showers.
