We had originally planned on taking the kids to the zoo today but cool temperatures and cloudy skies made us change our minds and instead we took the kids to the open playtime at the local Pump It Up. Normally a place for fun kids birthday parties, many offer open hours in the mornings for the kids that aren't in school yet. Sebastian and his two cousins (4 year old Ashley and 2 year old Gracey) had a great time sliding, playing ball, and just jumping around. It was a nice way to get the kids out of the house for a little while. Great-Grandma, who is in town visiting from NY, treated and even bought lunch at Sonic for us all on the way home!
Each of the kids found a book they enjoyed: Ashley was reading Mother Goose, Gracey was reading a Winnie the Pooh book, and Sebastian was checking out a book on tigers (complete with lots of roaring on his part).
Sebastian's maternal great-grandma is visiting from New York this week. My brother and his wife and their two kids drove over from Bulverde for the weekend. Sebastian LOVES having hit two cousins here to play with. Their favorite game right now is to climb up on the guest bed (in Abby's room) and jump on to the air mattress that is set-up for the to girls to sleep on. They did this for about a hour last night, and an hour this morning.
I guess after her crazy sleep, or lack thereof last night, Abby realized that giving me some smiles today was in her best interest. Today is the first day she has obviously been smiling, and enjoying some extra attention. She was awake from 3am - 7am making for a short sleep night for mom (at least I went to bed at 10pm so I got in 5 hours of sleep while Jay stayed up with her until midnight).
Abby and Sebastian got to play in mommy and daddy's bed today. I thought the first picture was so funny because they are in the same position, completely by accident. The second picture is an action shot of Sebastian jumping around on the bed.
I know poor Leo hasn't been getting as much press time as he used to, but he is still around and enjoying his lazy dog act. He has figured out that it is way more fun to stay snuggled in bed with Jay then to get up with me and the baby in the middle of the night. Some nights I have trouble getting back to sleep because there is a large snoring pug in my bed! He seems to more or less ignore the new baby (unless she has some spit up formula that needs cleaning up). However, he and Sebastian do play well together most of the time, when Leo is not curled up in a nest on top of our sofa pillows. When I run errands without the kids I try to take Leo because he LOVES car rides, and I can easily pat his head while driving!
We are still trying the swaddling to help Abby sleep better and keep her calm, and warm (it has been unseasonably cold here in Houston). We got these great blankets from Swaddle Design that are large enough to actually keep her swaddled when she is sleeping. This seems to be helping somewhat. Unfortunately she is still really fussy (or screaming her head off) between 10-1am but then she'll sleep for 3-4 hours, take a bottle, and sleep for another 3-4 hours. We just need to get that sleep time moved a little so she'll sleep from 10-2 and 2:30-6:30 instead of the 1-4, 5-9 schedule we are on now.
