After a brief period of "I no like" and some tears, we found our way to the barn where Sebastian chased chickens at Dewberry Farm. Then he really liked the big tractor and played in the little kids playground!
Sebastian rediscovered a hat that I had bought for him a while back in our closet and decided to wear it around yesterday evening while we spent time time playing in front of our house. He even tried to pose for me while I took pictures (which was really funny). And I included a token picture of Abby - who is now crawling around!
I love the colors of Autumn. Olive Green, Orange and Brown especially. And those are the colors we'll be seeing a lot of in Abby's fall wardrobe. Since she still doesn't have any hair (poor girl) girly clothes are still essential for gender identity (even in a dress I'll have people say she is a beautiful boy) but I've managed to move away from the pinks and introduce lots of other colors into her fall wardrobe. She is just outgrowing most of her 9 month stuff and moving into 12 month stuff (although this dress from Gymboree is a 12-18 months). I think my new favorite picture of her is the second picture. I might need a giant print of that hanging in my gallery! Mom, if you want one, email me-don't print it on your desktop! :-)
I tried to take the kids to the Houston Arboretum today for some walking but unfortunately the bugs there are still out of control. If you pause for a moment they swarm...even with a liberal dose of bug spray. So, I loaded them back into the car and decided to take them to the Houston Zoo since it was only 10 minutes away and still early (around 10). We have a membership (thanks Nana and Grandpa) so impromtu trips like this are great because they don't cost us anything.
Sebastian is old enough now to recognize that if we are at the zoo, we'll get to see giraffes, lions, and tigers. He gets very excited. We spent a bunch of time at the tiger exhibit. One was pacing around and swimming in the water so he got very close to us! It was neat to see one so up close. They revised the playground area and Sebastian spent some time there, and brushing the goats in the "petting" area. After just an hour we were all way to hot and sweaty to stay so we headed back to the car where both kids took a well deserved nap in the comfort of the AC.
Sebastian starts school next week and we need to give him a family picture and well, we didn't have one. So off we went to the Mercer Botanical Gardens loaded up with a tripod, my camera, and various props to try to entertain the kids. I have never been on a weekend day and let me tell you it is a completely different experience. This is the third "shoot" in the past week, and normally I'm the only one there with run of the place with my client. However today there were at least 5 other photographers there so I was careful not to get in anyone's way since we were just doing our own pictures and not a paying client. Sebastian started in pretty early with "I no like" and "no pictures". We managed to get one of us using the timer on my camera so we have the picture for school. I took a few others of Abby since she is now almost 9 months old. Sebastian wouldn't even be bribed with Pez for pictures but he did a few laps with the horse!
